Our itinerary was a 14-day, roundtrip Tokyo sailing aboard the Silversea Muse. We began by flying into Narita Airport and spent two nights at the stylish Cerulean Tower Hotel in Tokyo. Though it’s roughly an hour away in light traffic, the commute can double during peak times. For smoother airport logistics, Haneda Airport is a better choice — closer and more convenient before setting sail.

⚓ Port Highlights: Hiroshima & Kanazawa

On this 7-day, roundtrip Tokyo cruise, we visited many ports that I will forever remember. From visiting Osaka, Fukoka, Busan, Aomori and Hakodate, the two ports that stood out to me were:

• Hiroshima — A place of profound history and inspiring rebirth, offering impactful excursions and cultural reflection.

• Kanazawa — Renowned for its beautiful preserved samurai and geisha districts, as well as stunning gardens like Kenrokuen.

One charming part of visiting Japan is seeing people elegantly dressed in traditional kimonos, a common and delightful sight in cities and towns alike. Japan’s outstanding cleanliness impressed us, notably the absence of public trash cans, smoking is strictly confined to designated zones, and eating or drinking while walking down the street is often discouraged, reflecting the country’s respectful public etiquette.
