What is travel insurance and do I need it?
Your vacation is an investment, which is why Bon Voyage Travel highly recommends protecting that investment by purchasing travel insurance.
Insurance varies depending on the vacation details, the total price of your trip, your age and more. There are plans to fit any budget or vacation and depending on your plan, insurance can cover trip cancellation, interruption or delays, medical, dental, emergency medical transportation, lost luggage, missed connections, itinerary changes and more.
Our experts have access to various travel insurance providers and partners, so you’ll have plenty of great options to choose from. Due to the unpredictability of busy schedules, health problems, global events and unforeseen issues that are inherent to travel, Bon Voyage Travel recommends travel insurance on every trip and to always protect your vacation investment.
What kind of documentation or information do I need to travel?
It depends on where you're going and how you get there, as rules are different based on domestic vs. international travel, by country and whether it's a flight, cruise or land vacation.
Your advisor will provide you with all the information related to your specific trip and are here to help make sure all these details and documents are taken care of. So not to worry - we're here to help!
Every trip is unique, but in general, you may need:
* Your important travel documents such as confirmations for tours and transfers, flight, cruise or hotel info and any related information.
* A valid photo ID issued by a government authority (i.e. Drivers License, Global Entry card, etc.)
***REAL ID deadline has been extended to May 2025**: A traditional driver's license will no longer be accepted through airport security. Every air traveler 18 years of age and older will need a REAL ID-compliant driver's license, state-issued enhanced driver's license, or another acceptable form of ID to fly within the United States. The new deadline is pending.
* If traveling internationally, U.S. citizens will need a passport that is valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of your expected return. Soon-to-be-expired passports, while still legal, may take longer to pass through immigration.
* Immunization or vaccines (as needed or required) depending on where you're traveling.
* Depending on the country and if you're planning on staying for a longer period of time, you may need a Visa. Your travel advisor can guide you through this, but you can find country specific information by [CLICKING HERE.](http://www.travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_4965.html)
Is airfare included in the price?
Unless directly specified or part of a package that includes flights, airfare is not typically included in the stated price of a cruise or land tour.
Your advisor will be able to help you figure out the best flight options, pricing and more.
How much do cruises and land tours typically cost?
The short answer is - it depends. Vacation costs are as varied as the options themselves. Your Advisor will explain and guide you depending on the experience you're planning, but prices typically depend on:
* the experience you're looking for
* the mode of travel (i.e. river cruise vs. expedition cruise)
* the accommodations you desire
* the destination
* duration of travel
* the number of people in your party
* what you'd like included (i.e. packages vs. a la carte)
* any added tours, transfers, etc.
* the time of year
Regardless of your budget or bucket-list, our advisors work alongside you to understand your passions and preferences and will always find the best travel options to make your dreams a reality. With access to exclusive pricing, extra perks and a variety of added amenities - with __[Bon Voyage Travel](http://bvtravel.com/why-choose-us)__ you never pay more, only get more!
Can I travel while I'm pregnant?
Your doctor should help determine what type of travel is right for you at what stage of your pregnancy, but most cruise lines *will* allow pregnant women to travel up to their third trimester. After this time, the policies varies by cruise line, but many will not allow any travel or will require a note from a physician. Please consult with your physician and speak to a Bon Voyage Travel advisor regarding rules and restrictions by cruise line or tour company.
I have a disability or mobility issue - can I still travel?
Absolutely! While some trips or types of travel might not be right for you - like a rugged expedition cruise or active adventure - there are dozens of options and a variety of cruise ships that cater to travelers requiring accessibility or special care. Accessibility can mean different things in different countries and for different people, so let your travel advisor help you sort through all the options to find the destination, itinerary, accommodations and activities perfect for your needs.
Are cruises and land tours ADA accessible?
Keep in mind, some of the destinations you will visit are not ADA accessible, as ADA laws only apply to the United States. As such, accessibility can be defined differently in other countries and may vary slightly by cruise line or land tour operator.
But most major cruise lines have ADA accessible cabins and common areas. Land tour companies can usually accommodate disabled passengers or those requiring additional help, however there are instances or itineraries that may not be right for you or may require you to travel with someone who is willing to help you.
Regardless, ask your Bon Voyage Travel advisor about specifics for each ship and regulations for each cruise line regarding accommodations and activities, what equipment is provided to those with disabilities and what needs to be brought. Your advisor can also discuss the issues and limitations regarding ship tendering and shore excursions.
Already Booked
What if I need help with an existing reservation?
If you know which advisor you booked with, please contact them directly - a full list of our travel advisors can be found by clicking here.
If you're not sure, please call 1 (800) 439-7963 or email our team at [[email protected]]() and one of our team members will respond as soon as possible. Please have your trip details and all relevant reservation information available so we can expedite any support we can provide.
What if I need to cancel my booking?
If you need to cancel your vacation, please contact your [Bon Voyage Travel advisor](http://bvtravel.com/advisors) as soon as possible. Rules and requirements vary by vendor, so your advisor will guide you through the cancellation procedure, applicable penalties and additional options specific to your reservation.
Can my itinerary change after I’ve booked?
Though uncommon, yes - an itinerary can change after you’ve made your reservation. This is usually due to global or geo-political issues (i.e. travel rules for Cuba), weather and/or safety concerns or perhaps a result of a cruise or tour being cancelled due to not enough passengers. If this is the case, you will be immediately notified and updated on any changes affecting your plans or your itinerary. Furthermore, we will do our best to re-accommodate you and work with the vendor on your behalf.
When will I receive my tickets, itinerary info and related travel documents?
Thought it varies by company, typically, you can expect to receive your ticket, itinerary and related documents and details at least 2 to 4 weeks prior to your departure date.
After you’ve booked your trip with Bon Voyage Travel, you will receive a confirmation code which you can then use to access your reservation online directly with the company you are traveling with. And of course, our incredible advisors are there every step of the way to answer any questions or ensure you receive everything you need well in advance of your trip.
What if the price changes after I book my trip?
It is important to know that rates for cruises, hotels, flights and more may fluctuate based on a variety of factors. The travel company you are directly booked with dictates whether a customer is allowed to re-ticket at a lower rate, not our Advisors.
While some cruise lines and tour operators will adjust rates, most do not. Your Bon Voyage Travel Advisor can advise you on each travel company and cruise line’s policy and answer specific price-related questions as they relate to your booking.
Cruise-Related
What kind of cruise is right for me?
From intimate riverboats to luxurious yachts to adventurous expeditions to exciting mega-ships, cruising is the best vacation value anywhere and grants you unparalleled access to the world's most coveted destinations you've always dreamed of discovering.
Whether your perfect experience means reconnecting with family, relaxing with friends or rediscovering yourself, the experts at Bon Voyage Travel have crafted thousands of cruise vacations and know what goes into planning the perfect getaway.
There are many types of cruise experiences out there and your Advisor will help you understand the various options and which cruise line, ship, itinerary or experience is right for you including:
* Ocean cruises (family, mega-ships, mid/small-ship, etc.)
* Luxury cruises (small-ship, all-inclusive, etc.)
* River cruises (European, exotic, expedition, etc.)
* Yacht cruises (chartered, group, luxury, etc.)
* Expedition cruises (polar, adventure-themed, enrichment, etc.)
* Hosted cruises (guided journeys)
What does all-inclusive actually mean?
Every cruise fare includes the same three things—your accommodations, standard meals and basic entertainment. —but every cruise line defines ‘all-inclusive’ slightly differently, and certain ships, sailings and stateroom options may add even more.
In general, here are the possible perks you’ll get when choosing an all-inclusive luxury cruise like Regent Seven Seas, Crystal, Silversea, Seabourn and many others:
* Meals—general dining plus room service and specialty restaurants
* Drinks—sodas, beer, wine & spirits and in-room mini-bar
* Gratuities—tips and most additional fees
* Amenities—Wi-Fi, enrichment classes, entertainment, butler service, laundry & dry-cleaning
* Extras—shore excursions, onboard services, airport transfers, pre or post-cruise hotel and even flights may be included depending on the particular cruise line.
What is shipboard credit?
Shipboard credit is a specific dollar amount automatically deposited into your onboard account—virtual cash—to spend on the ship. It's typically granted or given by your travel advisor or the cruise line. (Ask your Advisor if you're eligible to earn more shipboard credit on your sailing.)
Although every cruise line has slightly different restrictions for spending your shipboard credit, there are typically very few places on board (like the ship’s casino) where you may not be able to use it.
Ways to apply shipboard credit may include:
* Specialty restaurants
* Food & beverage not included in the cruise fare
* Spa services
* Shore excursions (if booked onboard)
* Gratuities
* Onboard shopping or shipwide purchases
* Internet or communication packages
* Photography packages
* Onboard activities (i.e. bingo)
Remember, if you still happen to have shipboard credit left at the end of your voyage (which is extremely unlikely), you don’t get the leftover amount back as cash—it's "use it or lose it" and has no actual cash value.
When do I tip and when is gratuity included?
Every cruise line has their individual policies on tipping. Many lines include gratuities and some others recommend what should be given on a daily basis. Your travel advisor will explain the details of your specific cruise line policy.
What security measures can I expect on a cruise ship?
Every passenger will be screened prior to embarking their cruise ship and at the various ports of call. We recommend you carry your cruise-issued ID with you at all times, as it will be needed each time you embark and disembark at the various ports of call. Specific security measues vary by ship and by port, but typically include:
* presenting cruise line-specific ID
* passing through a metal detector
* showing identification (along with passport and visa if necessary)
* having baggage screened and x-rayed
* customs areas or port-specific security checkpoints
Also, all ships have some form of hired security whether they be former military personnel or other private security force to ensure ships and surrounding areas are safe.
What kind of communication options are onboard (i.e. internet, phone, etc.)?
***Internet***
On most major cruise lines, you can access the ship's internet through the onboard Wi-Fi connection, either provided in your cabin or other common area. Most cruise lines offer pre-paid internet packages as well, which our advisors can help explain or recommend to you based on your needs.
There may also be Internet cafes either onboard or in port, which charge a fee per minute to go online. If staying at a hotel, there is usually a Wi-Fi connection, which can be free or cost an additional charge.
***Phone***
On most cruise ships, you will be able to use your cell phone in port, near shore and using Wi-Fi for some communication. When international, roaming charges will apply or your carrier can recommend an international plan that suits your needs. Please note that if you do not have an international cell phone or have not activated an international phone plan, you will not be able to use your cellphone in international cities.
For international cell phones, you can also avoid roaming charges by purchasing a prepaid SIM card in the country you are visiting. You will be charged the local rate for local calls and a lesser international rate for calls to the U.S. This is ideal if spending more than a few days in one country. Please have your Bon Voyage Travel advisor recommend a company to get your sim card set up prior to your travel dates. Another option is to prepurchase a calling card if you don't have an international cell phone or phone plan or do not use the Internet as a regular means of communication. It allows you to make international calls from a cell phone or landline wherever you are. Be sure to check the calling rates, as they can vary from card to card. Also, cell phone rates are usually higher than the advertised rates.
What is a cabin category? What is a cabin upgrade?
A cabin category is the stateroom "level" that a cruise line has designated to a group of cabins based on its size, location on ship, included amenities, deck level and other characteristics.
Cabin categories (and names) vary by cruise line and ship but typically include:
* Inside cabins (no porthole or window)
* Outside or Ocean View cabins (with a porthole or window)
* Balconies or Verandas (outside access), and
* Suites (usually a larger room with extra amenities and outside access)
A cabin upgrade is when your cabin category is elevated to a higher category by the cruise line. It can be random or offered as a reward to loyal travelers of the cruise line.

Yes, land tours (escorted tours) can absolutely accommodate kids with family-oriented itineraries. In fact, many tour companies cater to this demographic! Most do implement an age minimum of 5 years old for family travel, however, there are some exceptions where an older age minimum is implemented.
Your Bon Voyage Travel advisor will be able to recommend which option is best for your family and can tell you all the options available to best suit children, parents, grandparents and multi-generational parties.
What is typically included in a land tour?
***Flights***
Flights to and from your destination are typically not included, unless specifically stated. Though flights within your itinerary will be arranged for you by your Advisor or directly with the tour company, airfare is not usually included in the stated price.
***Transfers***
Transfers to and from the airport are usually provided for most land tour packages. Once in a destination, transportation is typically included for most included tours or activities, and getting you to the next destinations is included. Whether it's a shared or private transfer, we can help you ensure this aspect of your trip is flawless.
***Accommodations***
Accommodations are included in packaged land tours or multi-destination escorted tours. For most other land options and FITs - customized land journeys - flights are individually selected and paid for and are not included in the cost to provide travelers with flexibility, the ability to manage the cost, select quality and choose the location of each hotel.
***Activities, Meals and More***
Like accomodations, activities and food and bevareage inclusions change by tour company or itinerary. Activities could include guided tours, group excursions, local events and more. While many activities and meals are typically included in the premier packaged land tours or pre-arranged land-based vacations, but since each vacaion is personalized for you, these options may change.
Check with your Advisor for the specifics as to what is and isn't specifically included in your land tour or land-based vacation.
Is tipping customary on a tour?
For land tours and most shore excursions, it is indeed customary to tip your tour guides and bus drivers since their gratuity is not included. Unless otherwise indicated, follow regional tipping guidelines or general common courtesies for those involved on your tour.
