Advisor Stories / Vicki Keune / Immersive Cuba with Oceania Cruises

From the colorful cities and legendary cars of Cuba, the greenery of the Dominican Republic and the beautiful white-sand beaches of the Bahamas, the Seaside Silhouettes itinerary with Oceania Cruises was both beautiful and bucket-list worthy.

Vicki Keune recently returned from this Oceania Cruises voyage. Read her recap below.

What did you enjoy most about Oceania Cruises?

I really enjoyed the smaller size of the ship. There were only 688 guests in all. I got to know almost everyone during this 10-day voyage.

Tell us about the cities you visited with this itinerary.

We visited Havana, Cienfuegos, Santiago de Cuba, Punta Cana and Great Stirrup Cay.

In Old Havana I was so impressed with its history and the people who were so friendly and helpful. They are rebuilding at a very rapid pace to be ready for the opening of their beautiful island.

Santiago de Cuba was also very nice, but much smaller than Havana. Not as much to do here but naturally stunning.

Nassau, Bahamas is beautiful, but keep in mind everything is much more expensive here. Plan accordingly – especially if you like to shop!

What shore excursions did you go on? Which ones would you recommend?

I did two shore excursions while in Havana. First, I went on “Cuba’s Classic Cars” excursion where we took a ride through the old streets of Havana in our own vintage car. Then, I took an “Old Havana Walking Tour” where we walked through its streets and took in the Cuban culture, food and local flair.

What advice would you give to someone going on a similar trip?

I would advise you to book your excursions well in advance due to Cuba’s restrictions. I would also get involved with the local activities offered. Finally, leave your fancy clothes at home - aboard Oceania Cruises the atmosphere is relaxed so no need for your heels.

What are 3 things one can expect from Oceania Cruises?

  1. The finest cuisine at sea
  2. High quality service among staff and crew
  3. Well-designed small ship that feels airy and open

Did you enjoy any specialty dining on board the ship? What were your favorites?

I thoroughly enjoyed the food at Tuscan Steak House! I highly recommend making reservations to eat there.
