A Journey Through Southeast Asia in Silversea Style: Lisa Summer’s Silver Moon Adventure

I recently returned from a truly unforgettable journey aboard Silversea Cruises’ Silver Moon — a 14-day luxury cruise from Singapore to Hong Kong (February 29 – March 14, 2024). This voyage was filled with immersive cultural experiences, exquisite cuisine, pampered relaxation, and the kind of moments that celebrate the art of slow, mindful travel.

Here’s a look inside my journey — one filled with hidden gems, personal reflections, and a few meaningful celebrations along the way.

Singapore: Where My Journey Began My adventure kicked off in style at the Andaz Singapore. With stunning city views, beautiful design, and thoughtful amenities, it was the perfect place to rest before boarding. Dinner at the rooftop restaurant Mr. Stork (39th floor) set the tone — an early anniversary celebration with breathtaking views!

From the futuristic flow of Changi Airport to the lush, floral-lined streets, Singapore impressed me on every level. I still remember my first taste of avocado hummus — a small but surprisingly delightful moment.

Boarding the Silver Moon I embarked on the Silver Moon, Silversea’s elegant, 596-passenger ship with a crew of 411 who seemed to anticipate my every need.

No lines. Spacious suites. A butler anticipating every need. It was luxury with soul.

My first dinner onboard was at Kaiseki, a refined Japanese dining experience inspired by the five elements and the balance of yin and yang — a perfect metaphor for this beautifully balanced voyage.

Koh Samui & Bangkok, Thailand In Koh Samui, I joined a beachfront Thai cooking class where I learned to make Tom Kha Kai Soup, Stuffed Crabmeat, and Pad Thai (yes — there was ketchup!). That evening, a Signature Hosted Cocktail Party offered a perfect chance to connect with new friends and share stories under the stars.

Bangkok was nothing short of spiritual. I visited Wat Arun, wandered through vibrant flower markets, offered blessings, and joined locals in prayer.

The Thai live to pray and give thanks… generations of peace and love.

The kindness and humility of the Thai people truly moved me.

Vietnam: From Saigon to Halong Bay In Ho Chi Minh City, I took in the city’s deep layers — from its complex war history at the War Remnants Museum to the everyday rhythm of scooters, sidewalk cafés, and drive-thru vendors on two wheels.

An emotional day, but one filled with gratitude and a deeper understanding of our Vietnam Vets.

In Central Vietnam, Hue and Hoi An completely captured my heart. I joined a hands-on food tour with the legendary Chef Ms. Vy, witnessed silk-making in action, and was enchanted by the colorful lanterns that lit up the old town.

And then there was Halong Bay — 1,600 limestone islands rising out of emerald waters. From cave hikes to floating past low-slung coal barges, the contrasts between nature and industry left me in awe.

Sea Days: Time to Reflect and Reconnect The sea days aboard Silver Moon were pure magic. We played cards on the bed, battled in Junior Monopoly, puzzled for hours, and joined cooking classes in the S.A.L.T. Lab. These were some of the simplest, sweetest moments of the trip.

Dinner by the pool and French 75 cocktails... our new favorite way to dine.

We even celebrated our 32nd anniversary (two months early) with cake, balloons, and a toast to a life well-traveled.
