New York to Quebec City on Silversea

Marybeth Ricciardi
I recently had the privilege to be the Signature Host on Silversea’s Silver Shadow cruising from New York to Quebec City. Aug, 29-Sep 8, 2024.
We stopped at Newport, RI, Boston, Portland, ME, Halifax, Sydney Nova Scotia, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and Saguenay, Quebec.
The Silver Shadow holds 392 passengers, but for this cruise there was only 319 people onboard. I really enjoy a smaller ship since you get to meet more passengers, and the crew gets to know you also. My cabin was a Vista Suite which is the only ocean view category that Silversea offers. Cabin was a nice size with a big picture window, good size bathroom with a tub and separate shower, big walk-in closet, and a nice sofa with extra chair. With Silversea, all suites include butler service, so any request is taking care of promptly.
The only complaint regarding the cabin was the noise when you are arriving or departing a port. Since the cabins are forward on Deck 4, you can hear the engine and the anchor.
The rest of the time, the cabin was nice and quiet!
Departing out of New York is always nice, but I was surprised the Silversea didn’t have any real “sail away party”. I always enjoy when other ships play Frank Sinatra’s New York, New York.
Being a small ship, the entertainment was 4 singers and 2 dancers. All of the shows were terrific with very talented performers. They also offered a comedy show 2 nights which was pretty funny.
Silversea offers the main restaurant, the buffet which becomes La Terraza in the evening, The Grill, and also La Dame. La Dame is their specialty restaurant which costs $60 per person.
I thought my dinner at La Dame was the best dinner I had during the cruise. Of course you could also order room service 24/7.
Most shore excursions were included. I did the kayak experience in Saguenay which did cost more but was fun and the scenery was beautiful.
Other shore excursions were walking tours or motorcoach tours. I think my favorite was the lighthouse tour in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
I was also so glad that I finally got to go to Peggy’s Cove. Now I know why it’s so popular.
I never realized how much I like lighthouses! Most of the tour guides were good, but a few were fairly new, and you could tell.
Silversea is an all-inclusive cruise, so once you’re onboard your drinks and gratuities are taken care of. The crew was wonderful. Always willing to help in any way, and always with a smile on their face. Overall, this is a wonderful cruise and itinerary.
