Galapagos Islands on Silver Origin
Michele Henry
The Galapagos was such a moving experience. You felt like you walked back in time, listening to the waves of the ocean, and the wildlife was incredible.
The sight of the SILVERSEA expedition team as we arrived in San Cristobal and escorted to the ship with somewhat old buses was something else! The zodiac was surrounded by Sea Lions and another zodiac was filled with our checked luggage.
We arrived at the Silver Origin holding only 100 passengers was such a beautiful site. Our trip was filled with Blue Footed Boobies diving around the harbor and sea lions everywhere.
We saw Land Iguana; they are a lot bigger than you think. Birds and animals are everywhere and that is why Galapagos is so overwhelming. There are sea lions, blue -footed boobies, hawks, giant tortoises. We watched a sea lion mother protect her child, visited the giant tortoise farm, the males weigh up to 600 pounds.
Deep water snorkeling was such a great experience. We swam around turtles, so many that you inadvertently would touch them. We saw white tipped sharks, swam with sea lions. The expedition guides led us through each snorkel and was so organized. We saw many different fish! The Wetsuits, Flippers and Snorkels were provided, cleaned and stored on the boarding platform daily.
The expedition team deserved recognition as they were so passionate and experts in nature, geology, and wildlife. We got to know them very well as they are with you every moment that you are ashore, snorkeling or on the zodiac. The top deck has both the outdoor Grill and Bar and has the optional “Hot Rocks” experience as well.
The Origin was designed specifically for the Galapagos and debuted in 2021 and does not take long for you to feel right at home. Base camp is where we gather, then we’re led out to a briefing on the aft deck daily. Suites are located on deck 5 & 6 and on Deck 6 has the Horizon Balconies, the larger suites are to the aft and the butlers are perfect. On deck 3 is the basecamp!
Another fascinating aspect was the volcanic nature of the Galapagos. The story of Darwin was incredible, and you will learn all about it when you go to the Galapagos! Let’s not forget the beautiful sunsets!
