Exploring the "City of Lights" - Paris, France
Shelby Feemster
Whether it's cuisine, culture, architecture or history, Paris, France is a destination that can't be beat! One of our most well-traveled advisors Shelby Feemster recently returned from the "City of Lights" where she saw famous works of art, sipped fine wines and visited famous sites like the Eiffel Tower, the glittering lights of the Champs-Élysées and the majestic Arc de Triomphe.
Shelby’s recent visit to Paris didn’t disappoint in that she was able to immerse herself in all that this city has to offer and found herself wanting more time to explore even more. Here's a summary of her Paris vacation:
Did you enjoy this destination? Why?
Yes! Paris has such wonderful food and there is so much to see and do. I particularly liked the Musee d’Orsay, a beautiful museum in Paris. However, Palace of Versailles and the Louvre with its endless halls of works of art is worth the trip alone.
What are your top pieces of advice for someone going on a similar trip?
- Use the Metro – great way to get around! Consider a Paris Pass if you are there for 3 or more days.
- Staying on the left bank does offer a great many sites that can be in walking distance if you’re up for it.
- It’s not true that the people are rude but it is true that the food is amazing! Learn a few key words and phrases – the French appreciate it and English is commonly spoken.
- Do arrange for a transfer from airport to hotel/hotel to airport. Locals often warned us about pick- pockets on the trains, especially the ones that travel the airport routes. Besides, with long halls, crowds and often many stairs when using the underground your luggage will be cumbersome.
Have you been to this destination before, or would you want to come back again? Why?
Yes, but the first time was only for one night. Paris is the city of love and the city of lights and one of my favorite places on the planet. We had nine days and still didn’t cover it all! I can't wait to go back again.
