There are trips where you want to dive into the experience of the destination you are visiting. There are trips where you want to hit every tourist stop and take advantage of every photo opportunity. Then there are trips where doing none of the above is in order. Penny’s main goal when visiting the Western Caribbean was to relax and enjoy the salt-water breeze and island vibe with her friends.

Tell us about the ports/cities you visited with this itinerary.

The Vision of the Seas sailed from Galveston to Cozumel and Progreso, with 2 very relaxing days at sea.

What shore excursions did you go on? Which ones would you recommend?

I didn’t take any excursions in Cozumel. My friends had a great time diving. I took on a spa treatment and enjoyed the pool when everyone was in port. Progreso is located in the Yucatan and is known for their Mayan Ruins. I took the trek to Uxmal. I knew absolutely nothing about the Mayans and found the tour very fascinating.

What advice do you have for someone going on a similar trip?

  1. Galveston is a nice port to sail from. It was an easy non-stop flight to Houston, then a 1 ½ drive to Galveston.
  2. Relax and enjoy

What did you like most about the cruise line?

Royal Caribbean did not disappoint. The Vision of the Seas is an older ship (launched in 1998, and had an update in 2013) and I was a bit dubious. I was pleasantly surprised how nice the ship was. The staff was especially friendly, from my room steward to the wait staff in the dining room. There are no bells and whistles that the newer ships have, except the rock climbing wall. The Vision of the Seas has a rock climbing wall.

What are 3 things one can expect from this cruise line?

  1. Friendly service
  2. Accommodating service and good food in the dining room
  3. Fun evening entertainment

Did you do any shopping or specialty dining on board the ship? What were your favorites?

I did a bit of shopping onboard the ship. There were always ‘deals’ every day. I did not go to any specialty restaurants.
