Susan Entringer’s visit to China proved to be a once in a lifetime experience. Exploring new destinations and local flare made this trip one that she would re-visit if given the opportunity. We asked Susan questions regarding her trip to get all the details to help you decide if China should be on your bucket list!
What were your favorite destinations? Why?
Two of my favorite destinations were Beijing and Xian. There, I had the opportunity to see the Great Wall, Terracotta Warriors and the Ancient Walled City.
Did you go on any special shore excursions or side-trips?
I took a high speed train from Beijing to Xian, I saw a Chinese acrobat show in Shanghai, several local restaurants specializing in dumplings of various types, Summer Palace near Beijing, Muslim Quarter and Mosque in Xian and the Han Yang Ling Excavation sight Near Xian.
What are your top three pieces of advice for someone going on a similar trip?
- Be ready to walk…a lot. Nothing is ADA compatible.
- Western toilets in public areas are very limited, (if at all).
- Be sure to arrange all travel through a reputable tour operator, using local, English speaking guides. Logistics are very complicated as English is not widely spoken.
Have you been to this destination before, or would you want to come back again? Why?
I have never been to China. I would consider returning to do the Yangtze River Cruise and visit Chengdu, (Panda Sanctuary). The locals are very friendly, accommodating and eager to take good care of you.
Do you have any upcoming trips that you are excited about?
Yes! Azamara “Quest” from Miami to San Juan for Christmas with my husband.
